Timber, and what we are prepared to claim about it
Almost everything we sell is timber or a timber product. Where it comes from and how it was harvested is a fair question, and the honest answer today is that we are not in a position to answer it product by product.
So we do not claim it. No product on this website is presented as FSC certified, PEFC certified or EUTR compliant, because we do not yet hold that evidence on our product record — and a badge is not evidence.
What we buy
Our doors, frames and mouldings come from a small number of European manufacturers. Timber placed on the EU market carries due-diligence obligations on whoever places it there — what we cannot yet show you is the documentation, product by product, that demonstrates them.
What we would need to say more
A chain-of-custody certificate, or a due-diligence statement, held against the products it actually covers — with the certificate number, the issuing body and its validity dates, the same way our fire certificates are held. Not a supplier’s assurance in an email.
What happens when we hold it
It goes into our product record and appears on the products it covers, with the reference and the date, and disappears again if it lapses. That is how fire certification already works on this site, and it is the only kind of claim worth publishing.
Why this page is not a list of logos
It would be easy to put certification marks here. Most door distributors do. But a mark on a website is read as a statement about the product you are buying, and unless we can tell you which certificate covers which door and until when, it is decoration standing in for a fact.
We take the same position on fire performance: where we hold a certificate we publish its reference, the body that issued it, the standard it was tested to and its dates. Applying a lower standard to timber sourcing than to fire would be hard to defend.
Ask about sourcing for a project
If a specification or a public-sector tender requires chain-of-custody documentation, tell us the products and we will go to the manufacturer and tell you exactly what can be evidenced.
